We love finding antique chains, they seem to be getting harder and harder to find these days too! This particular chain has a really lovely, timeless belcher style link and a slim barrel clasp which is great for sliding pendants and charms straight over (bail/jump ring size depending!).
 
This victorian chain is such a versatile piece for your jewellery box and a real timeless piece too! Wear it on its own, layer it with other chains or add charms/pendants. So many different looks in one!
 
The chain is made of yellow gold that tests as 14ct gold and has a 9ct gold barrel clasp (marked '9ct'). We think the chain was likely part of a longer guard chain that was shortened at some point in time (this was often done to make these very long chains more wearable and was also done so that several family memebers could inherit the piece and share it between them).
 
The chain measures approx 18 1/2 inches long including the barrel clasp. The link measures approx 3.1mm wide and the barrel clasp measures approx 3mm in diameter too. The chain weighs approx 6g in total.
 
Condition - The chain is in good wearable antique condition but does show signs of age and wear, including some surface wear to the gold and some of the links are a little less round in shape. There looks to be a couple of old repairs to some of the links approx midway along the chain length, one has a darker solder mark to it. The clasp still works well. As the clasp and chain are different carats of gold, they do vary in colour and tone slightly to one another. Please see photos.
