This is one of the most incredible micro mosaic pieces of jewellery we've ever seen! It's a fantastic large size, a pendant sure to make a statement when worn, and features two doves holding on to the stem of a daisy flower. There is also a decorative white border and two further daisy flowers and leaves surrounding the birds.
The dove is an internationally recognisable symbol of faith and hope and according to The Language of Flowers, daisies symbolise innocence, purity, new beginnings, and cheerfulness.
Micro mosaics are crafted from miniature tiles, intricately placed to depict images, often nature-inspired scenes of landscapes, flowers, birds and sometimes even other animals.
We have listed the pendant as vintage (over 20 years old) as it doesn't have any maker's marks or hallmarks to give an indication to its exact age but we do think it could likely be older than this and be an antique (over 100 years old). We've seen similar examples dating to the Victorian period.
The micro mosaic is set in a silver base metal which we believe is a grade of silver. This looks to have been gilded/gold washed to give the look of solid gold.
The pendant is 51mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 36mm wide by approx 5mm deep and weighs approx 13.8g in total.
Condition - The pendant is in good vintage condition but does show signs of age and wear. The gilding/gold wash top layer to the metal has worn away in places showing a silver metal underneath and there are suface marks to the sides and back. The micro mosaic has a few small tiles missing which are noticeable under close inspection and a couple that have sunk lower in the setting but is in overall very good condition. The jump ring is pushed closed and is silver toned. Please see photos.
